Travel Tips for the high altitude!

Travel Tips for the Mountains

it is always happier to reach out to the mountains, to feel the fresh air.  Even science admits travelling to moutains is healthier because lot of negative ions are there. Every city is clogged with positive ions.. hence the pressure in our day to day life's.

Travelling to moutaints is to relax, reorient, rejuvenate...
Our travel will be more enjoyable if we take a few precautions.

a. Terrain:

Just find out the place and its altitude.  if the hills are in south india, normally they are safer and the roads are motorable.  You don't need acclimatisation. You need to choose a vehicle to befit the terrains. May be an off roader or a 4 wheel drive vehicle will be preferable if you are trying it out
on mud.

b. Group:

What is the age group of the persons travelling?  Young and energetic will be fine. if some of them are  above 40, need to check up their blood pressure!  if they are too young, they might vomit once the ghat road starts. so be prepared for dropouts.

c. Food:

Eat light food before you go up on the ghats. do not take heavy stomach churning masala items or pizza or burger to complicate your digestion.
Carry a lime to douze off the vomitting sensation  or carry a plastic bag to use in case of vomiting.

d. Clothes:

It is essential you carry a sweater or jerkin to beat the cold.  In case you chance upon any animals, clothes are very important.  Full hand t shirts in green / sand colour will be fine.
white is a no-no for elephants!  Wear shoes especially while trekking on the hills.
Cap and goggles are essential.  Ear plugs fine.

e. Plan:

Plan your tour program in advance to the likes of your group members. do your trekking early in the morning to catch a glimpse of the mammals.

f: Carry:

A bottle of water, knife glucose and a towel will be  sufficient to handle emergency.

g: Plants:

If you are not sure of the plant, do not touch it, you might get skin eruptions or allergies.
Never try to eat unknown fruit, it can be a poison.

h. Temperature:
Temperature or season can swing in either direction on a hill town.
so be prepared for eventualities.

i: Transport :
if you have a mountain train going, just hop in to it. No better way to see the forests.
esp in Nilgiris or Darjeeling.

J: Purchases:
Stock enough purchases like water, eatables and other necessary items, as it will be costly in the hills.

K. Drinks:
Be cautious with the drinks. Esp the driver of the vehicle should be a teetotaller.
Drinking might induce vomiting too.  it is better to avoid drinking while travelling.
Carry a lemon to counter it.

L.Animals:

Donot get too close with animals.  if you want to take picture, use a powerful zoom lens,
never try near a single elephant.  Be careful near the bushes and water bodies. animals can appear at anytime.

M. Waterfall:

The trick in climbing in to a waterfall is,  you should be on all four"s. Your hands should
be close to the ground to avoid fall. use your toes for walking on slippery surfaces. do not wear shoes it will slip. be bare minimum inside a waterfall,  remove all your jewellery before getting in to it. No use in searching after the loss.
